Book Review Fortitude: A Quest Through Fear and Doubt

Book Review of Fortitude:

A Quest Through Fear and Doubt by Gayle Lee

Fortitude is a 122-page memoir, Author Gayle Lee walks readers through 4 years of her life, her journey and inner struggles.    Fortitude A Quest Through Fear & Doubt could not be a better title for this book, for me, the book was an emotional read.  I lost my father and brother a few years ago so I was able to relate to part of the book, the journey, and the doubt.

Fortitude was an easy and quick read, I loved a line in the introduction about the desire for success ” Everyone has the desire for success. If we remove the obstacles that keep us from our success, we have a clear path to achieve it.  However, fear can erupt and lead to doubt and insecurity”.  When I lost my father and brother I started working 24/7 this was my escape from reality, until one day I was so insecure about my business, my success that I almost gave it all up, I also did what Gayle did when she felt she had no other option but to leave.

Gayle’s writing style has brought me back to journaling I have not taken the time to put my words to the paper she is right it’s a healing style.  Throughout the book, Gayle’s journal notes are worked in smoothly into the different chapters and pages, really bring the personal experiences to life, the expressions and dreams are very touching and emotions.

Reading this book, you feel you are with Gayle on a 4-year journey of getting through life.  I really was moved by this book and I recommend it to reader dealing with loss, inner struggles, triumphs, and death.  This book is about breaking unproductive behavior patterns and getting out of her comfort zones.

Dancing with Life: Healing After the Death of a Child

Dancing with Life refers to the ups and downs everyone deals with throughout life. The title embodies the struggles, the happiness, and the whole range of emotions we go through to become who we are. But the whole story of Dancing with Life: Healing after the Death of a Child deals with the true-life trauma of author Gayle R. Lee. “What inspires me the most is being able to turn an awful experience into a great gift. The death of my son has enabled me to help other people through their own grief process and perhaps give them some hope.” Dancing with Life “is the true story of my life after my youngest son, Eric, was killed in a car crash. After being a single parent for most of their lives, my kids, Shawn and Eric, asked if they could go live with their dad and stepmother. They moved over a hundred miles away. Nine months later, a police officer came to my door informing me that Eric had been killed in a car accident. Eric had snuck out of his dad’s house in the middle of the night to meet up with his friends. There were four of them in the car and three of them died.” She says, “After Eric died, I felt his spirit near me on a daily basis. On one occasion, I saw his ghost coming down the stairs and sitting next to me in a chair. A friend of mine also saw Eric’s ghost.” Gayle R. Lee lives near Lansing, Michigan, and works in health care.
