Emotional Self Help Author Interview with Dr Brenda Shoshanna

What inspired you to write this book? This question (or its relative, “Why did you write this book?”) is one of your best opportunities to sell your book.  I was inspired to write this book during Covid, as I witnessed the huge amount of pain, loss, disconnection and loneliness that so many people were going through. My years of practice as a psychologist, long term Zen practitioner, and Interfaith Counselor, revealed a new and tremendously effective way of dealing with all of this.

The Unshakeable Road to Love is based upon the eternal principles for healing from all world scriptures, including Zen. It shows how to apply these unfailing principles directly in our everyday lives. PURCHASE ON AMAZON

This is a book of Practice, a hands on guide to actually stopping upset and conflict ion the spot. Although we all have many ideas about what causes distress and pain in our relationships, most of the time we are at a loss about what to do.

The Unshakeable Road turns these healing principles into simple, enjoyable actions we can take in all of our relationships. This is a radically new way of approaching ourselves and one another. Quickly turns things around.

In the book these principles are called Pillars of Love, which allow us build a foundation for our relationships which cannot be shaken or fail. For example:  You Do Not Have To Be Loved To Be Happy; You Have To Learn What It Means To Be Loving.

We explore the difference between Real and Counterfeit love and show how all the suffering we experience in relationships is due to being caught in Counterfeit Love.

What did you learn when writing the book? I learned how important it is to actually practice these principles, to put them into action day by day. As I worked on the book I had many unexpected experiences, which forced me to grow, to walk my talk.

What surprised you the most? I was surprised to discover how badly I needed this information, and how important it is to actually practice it. As they say, we teach what we have to learn.

What does the title mean? Some titles are self-explanatory.  The title points to a new pathway for creating relationships that are infused with value and meaning. Including our relationship with ourselves.

What did the subject(s) of the book think of it? Audiences love “behind-the-scenes” details that didn’t make it into your book.  Readers have reported receiving a great deal of help from the book and exercises.

Did the book make you like the subject(s) more or less?  Working on the book has opened up many new areas in my life for me. As I dwell upon Pillars of Love, I see how many opportunities exist for practicing the principles all the time. And how many I have overlooked in the past. How quickly they effect others and how badly needed they are.

Were you more or less sympathetic toward the subject(s)?  I have always dwelt upon this subject and working on the book forced me to truly look at it deeply, leave no corner unturned.

Do you understand the subject(s) better now? For me, it’s not a matter of “understanding” the subject, but of making it real in my life. Of actually practicing these principles. Although much will always be a mystery, as I see it, one learns not by “understanding” but by fully embodying a teaching. Being it. Then we know it intimately.
