Mary Jane Butters, attended the Skills Center North Trade School in Ogden Utah in Carpentry. She was hired to build houses at Hill Air Force Base. Mary Jane Butters has worked as a Fire Watch on mountain tops in Northern Idaho. She worked for the Unita Mountains as one of the first women wilderness rangers in the United States. Mary Jane has built fences in the Tetons in Wyoming and herded cows on the Snake River.

Mary Jane Butters with her husband owns their own farm in Moscow, Idaho. She resides on her farm and runs many businesses on the grounds. The businesses include a successful Organic Farm, product lines, Mary Jane’s Farm Magazine, and a store in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. She also owns her own flour mill in Oakesdale, Washington.

Mary Jane Butter’s new book, Milk Cow Kitchen shares with the readers about “Cow” Girl Romance, Cheese recipes, Farm style recipes, and backyard cow keeping. Her book is filled with some of her favorite phrases, such as;

“Your fences need to be horse high, pig tight, and bull strong.”

“Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.”

“Words that soak into your ears are whispered – not yelled.”

“Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.”

“Every path has a few puddles.”

“Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway.”

“Live a good honorable life.”

“If you find yourself in a hole the first thing to do is stop digging.”

“Always drink upstream from the herd.”

“Live simply, love generously, care deeply and speak kindly.”

Photography in the book Milk Cow Kitchen is a work of art. A page in the book is dedicated to actress Sandra Bullock with pictures of her in two movies – “Hope Floats” and “Infamous”. Other photos are by Kerstin Joensson, University historic Photograph Collection, Heifer International, and many by Mary Jane Butters herself.

In my opinion, the book Milk Cow Kitchen by Mary Jane Butters is an absolute delight. Being raised myself, on a working dairy of at least 500 milk cows helped me enjoy the book even more. This book has so much to offer. It is a must buy if only to just sit back and enjoy it.
